The bass player I have always found too much technique over content. With the other Avishai Cohen you also get sister Anat Cohen thrown in, whose work I enjoy. clifford_thornton
Ah, yes, that is a wonderful album. Love it. The America LP with Lacy seems a bit more "out" in some spots (maybe because of Potts' presence) but the Victor is beautifully recorded. adh1907
Witches and devils, Albert Ayler 1972 UK Polydor issue, bought today from a Camden Town record shop. The label and inside the gatefold sleeve are stamped ‘file copy’. In 50 years of record buying, I have never seen that before, anyone know what that means? You might be right yes the America is a little more out in some kind of ways. I don’t know if it’s the recording, the pressing or both but most Japanese Victors from this decade sound amazing. It had/has great sound and was my major introduction to the First Herd. The Mosaic has replaced it in my listening, but I have a very soft place in my jazz heart for this one! Pim
okay Glass Bead Games might be a slightest bit better but I have a huge soft spot for this excellent release. Clifford Jordan with dream bands. I love it. Have to say that all EU and American pressing plants could learn a lot from this Japanese manufacturer. Vinyl is cleaner than clean and flatter than flat. Even the Tone Poets and Acoustic Sounds records come with dust and dirt these days but on this one: not a slightest spot. okay Glass Bead Games might be a slightest bit better but I have a huge soft spot for this excellent release. Kevin Bresnahan
Chris Botti - Vol. 1 (Blue Note). Jazzier than his usual stuff but still skates really close to the smoother side of things. I am enjoying it but I don't think it'll be put on when I'm looking for some foot tapping.
