Charles Mingus Presents Charles Mingus

I've had terrible experiences with this one in the past. I bought a copy from Chiswick car boot that was a boot, gave it away and the bought another copy from Jazz Messengers in Lisbon, not realising that such a fancy and overpriced record shop would sell euro-knock offs. Nice to finally have a decent Candid, which sounds a lot better.

Ooof.  Tough.

But that one's worth the Herculean strivings... and then some.  One of Mingus' finest hours.  :tup

What a cool artifact!  I suppose that's the only one in the whole world.

. . . And the music is astounding, of course.

Pound for pound, this might be my favourite Art Ensemble record.

Yup.  Mine also.

Somehow a very captivating cover. I would have wanted to be aboard that train. How's the music? And what about "Volume III"?

I'm playing this:

1966 US Stereo pressing.

I have this both in mono and stereo versions. The mono is cut louder and sounds almost as if it has some extra reverb. The stereo version is better if one wants to enjoy Bob Florence's nice arrangements for the sax section, one of his better efforts. All in all, a very enjoyable album which I have listened to many times over the years.

Is the second guy from the left on the back cover really Bill Perkins?
