Again the Pepper box. Music that probably everyone around here already owned and enjoyed for long time but I had a hard time enjoying Pepper for a long time. But I had a similar thing with Jackie McLean who I now regard as one of my favorite sax players. Anyway this excellent Japanese 3LP contain three of the Village Vanguard nights. Excellent compilation in excellent sound. Enjoying it very much.

Another cool cat I enjoy very much. This would be a great selection for the Craft Contemporary series. Side A sometimes sounds Third Stream in my ears. Very interesting stuff with great playing by the whole band.

Hacke Bjorksten----- All star sextet-----(Sonet Sweden) EP

1957 EP with a slightly more muscular west coast sound. Sonet pressing looks like a mogul field with multiple small 2-3 mm rimmed craters in the vinyl. I've only ever seen this pressing defect on other Swedish Sonet EPs. Plays through despite this.

Not that rare on Sonet EP originals, alas, but it can happen on LPs too. Some of these seem to deteriorate distinctly with age. I have also observed this (though rather more rarely) on Metronome EPs. Maybe it's the pressing plant (i.e. certain orignal pressings?) that is at fault?

Andy LaVerne Trio - Another World (SteepleChase, 1978)

Love those Milestone two-fers, huge part of my jazz indoctrination, before and after the OJCs.  I used to devour the notes as well as the music, which I “burned” on cassettes to listen while driving 😂

They were bigger deals than most of the first Prestige ones because Riverside had all but disappeared.

Hard to imagine it today, but Riverside, Savoy, a lot of Verve, a good portion of Blue Note, and God knows how much prebop had vanished from general circulation in the early 1970s.

Maybe more things are vanishing now, but once digital, always available in some form or fashion.

Frank Fosters Loud Minority - Manhattan Fever. Pretty dull and disappointing record.

Gary Peacock - Tales from Another

Vignette and the Trilogy suite are amazing. I would dare to say that this excellent Peacock date could do without Jarrets singing.

Kids and wife love this one. Happy place music.

Kids currently happily charging around and enormous fake castle playground, so they're good.
