2LPs - This one grooves along very nicely, live atmosphere well captured and a very compatible group.

I totally agree, and -- from my point of view -- you're not overthinking it at all.

I think it's an important record -- a prime, early example of jazz that doesn't try to sound American/African-American.  As you say, Garrick completely embraces his English-ness.  As such, I consider The Heart is a Lotus -- and similar albums like it from around the same time -- to be a BIG DEAL, an evolutionary step in the history of the music.

Winstone has talked about this quite a bit.  She said that Garrick gave her "permission" to sing without an American accent, using her natural voice.

Of course, this step wasn't just one artist or one album.  But I think Garrick's music is probably a perfect example of a larger trend.

I hope to be seeing Norma ‘live’ In about a month’s time, with her group.

Strut reissue. There have been quite a few bootlegs of this one out there but this Strut issue is apparently authorised. Sounds as good as can be expected too,  no doubt better than what was originally put out on Saturn.

The Saturn original was apparently in quadraphonic !

Another fine issue by Strut.

I wish I could see that!  Be sure to give us a post-concert report.  :)

At the times when the US Mercury's & EmArCy's were rare in Germany  we were happy to get some time later the TRIP reissues. In this case I found  later the original.

the new Craft reissue. No shiny cover this time. I’m more impressed with the sound of this one than I was with Workin’. Sounds amazing. Ruby, My Dear 🥰

Today’s find - UK Colpix mono of a larger sized group put together by pianist Dave Lee in 1965. Notable for appearances by Ronnie Ross and Tubby Hayes as well as Kenny Wheeler. Finally glad to have this one !

Amazing that my local had not one but 3 copies of this 3LP set. Must have been a late delivery for RSD.

How's the Lee? I've nearly bought it a couple of times

I like it. Colpix vinyl can be very iffy and in the past I have passed on copies which were suspect, with surface noise an issue. This one is fine. Tubby Hayes is only on half of the LP.

Thanks, coincidentally one of my near locals has a copy. I might try and go in to give it a preview

I heard Joanne Brackeen with Joe Henderson in the late 70´s, maybe 1978 and she was fantastic and the audience loved here.
I heard her later with what was called a Joe Farrell Quartet (strange it would have been with Chet Baker added as the star of the group, but Chet was great in disappearing) and it was fair, but never close to here playing for Henderson. There was also one or two duos with the bass player whose name I don´t recall (is there a bassist Clint Houston ?). But piano-bass duo is not so much my thing. I have a very hard time listening to something where there´s no drums.

Have no recordings with her but some radio broadcasts with the bass player you did mention.
