Sweet. I'd love to have that one. I've lost on E-Bay quite a few times on it.

Yes, its a nice one. Big John in particular sounds glorious. Found it by pure chance on display in a UK store. The vinyl is great and the front cover is absolutely pristine, original laminate. Just minor marker pen (a price) on the back but otherwise its A1. That was the fastest buying decision I ever made.

Jo Jones: "The Main Man" (Pablo)

His drum solo on "I Want To Be Happy" is wonderful.

Everyone involved seems to be playing near the top of their game. I wonder if they knew that there wouldn't be many (or any) more chances to play with Papa Jo?

Hank Mobley: Hank Mobley BN 1568 (Classic Records)

Curtis Fuller: The Opener BN 1567 (King Japan)

Doing a little comparison of the sound of Mobley's tenor on these two, just for kicks.

Horace Parlan 'Speakin' My Piece' on the NY USA mono with Stanley T. at full bore.. :tup . To be follwed by Horace's 'Blowin The Blues Away' 47W63rd and Morgan's 'The Sidewinder' on NY USA, both mono.
