I love that Max Roach Quartet and it was my first Max Roach LP. But it had another cover with a big colour photo of Max Roach. It´s interesting, that two musicians in the setting were Mingus-involved (Mal Waldron in the 50´s and Clifford Jordan in the 60´. I think I bought it together with "Right Now" (Mingus from about the same time also at the Workshop in Frisco)

Some utter BS on the Hoffman Board about how this is a lesser title to be avoided. Rubbish - it is excellent. Anyone in the US who got one at $5 from Acoustic Sounds has got a steal.

Got this excellent French pressing in the mail yesterday. How I love this session. Most of the musicians are pretty obscure but they know how to swing. Original and playful compositions. Pity that Parker was such a troubled person. His tone on the baritone is very powerful! I like Bill Swindell too by the way.

I can’t believe they released the ‘Sings and Plays with Bud Shank and Strings’ as a Tone Poet and left the quartet stuff with Russ Freeman on the shelve.
