Never heard one though. scorpio is a record distribution where most of all ebay dealers getting there reissue lps from - he is specialised in jazz (lots of blue note titles) and soul funk. 1 blue note lp costs 6 $! pressing quality is sometimes bad (warped), some are pretty good but never to compare with reissues from the 80s or the originals ! and be aware: the labels of those blue note reissues are very often counterfeits of the orig labels (new york address or 47 west address etc). huge offers of 60s latin soul funk titles - you can not buy there as a private person! The Magnificent Goldberg Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 'Great White Hope'; I spotted that one too yesterday, but the Yamaha YC-30 organ and the overdubs made me hold off (though I didn't listen to it). How is it, MG? Up for MG! Sorry - I missed your earlier post for some reason. This is by a long chalk the least played of my Clare Fischer albums. I've played it fewer than a dozen times in over 35 years. But as I was listening to it yesterday - first time I'd gone through it since 1985 - I enjoyed it more than I'd remembered. I wasn't aware of any overdubs, though they're definitely there - in other words, they're not done so's you particularly notice them. Of course, if you want to listen to it and identify what he's doing all the time, they'd no doubt be apparent. But they needn't spoil your listening pleasure. I'm going to get this out a bit more in the next few months to see what happens. MG Quote

Parkertown Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 Gil Evans 'Into the Hot' (Impulse, mono) the Cecil Taylor and John Carisi sessions I keep striking out on finding this one...my buddy the tuba player highly recommends this one. Don Butterfield on tuba, right? Now spinnin': Leon Russell - Best of Leon - Shelter Records. Good ole swampy, Okie sludge. Quote
Parkertown Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 And yeah, those Scorpio reissues are hit or miss. The copy of Hank's Dippin' I recently grabbed sucks big time... They also press some Fantasyjazz stuff...the big giveaway are real glossy, thin-but-sturdy covers. w/ no bar codes. Hit or miss...I only take a chance on 'em from stores that allow me to return the shitty ones... Quote
Daniel A Posted October 1, 2006 Report Posted October 1, 2006 And yeah, those Scorpio reissues are hit or miss. Is there anyone around here who has come across a Scorpio reissue which sounds good? What are the chances if pressing quality is erratic and tape sources dubious (I wouldn't think Blue Note would let a low budget operation use anything than second or third generation copies). Quote
