I need to dive into the pool more often. I particularly like his recordings with Larry Young whoever's the leader. I’m enjoying him on Big John Patton’s Got A Good Thing Goin’ On right now. I don’t want to exaggerate, but it just might be the greatest human artistic endeavour of all time.

I'd discovered Jefferson through the fabulous Choir album reissued by Sam Records so was looking for others by him. BH's presence sealed the deal on this one. Nice session, LP's a bit battered but we'll get along together I think. Oh, that's cool. 38 minutes ago, mjazzg said: I have that Lake somewhere too, many moons since I've had it on the TT though It's a good one, isn't it?! And if I'd seen it, I'd have snapped it up to see if this was wildly anarchic. Bet it isn't MG Listening again to Bongo Madness. It is for the most part more minimalist, moody, and abstract than Jazz Heat Bongo Beat. It is kind of similar to Sabu's Sorcery and Safari albums. Buddy does a lot of extended solos over hypnotic patterns. Edited September 14, 2021 by Teasing the Korean

I remember when I stumbled across that album at a store in south Florida. About $20, VG+, Liberty issue. Had no idea if it was a fair price but at that time I considered $20-25 an OK price for things I knew I really wanted, and no doubt this qualified. It was definitely long before internet shopping or discogs took over so much of my purchases.

HutchFan
Now: Johnny Hodges - Previously Unreleased Recordings (Verve, 1974) with Barry Galbraith (g), Lalo Schifrin (p), George Duvivier (b), and Dave Bailey (d); recorded in 1963 Since he's the sole horn on this LP, Hodges' sound is very prominent. Very nice... and a bit unusual too. In fact, the only other Hodges record that I can think of with this exact instrumentation is Stride Right with Earl Hines.
