Some strange South American record on Columbia by Chicago called "New Gold Record." It has all their early hits and sounds great. The label is a bit messed up, causing a nasty sound when it hits the end of the record...

harold land - the fox - orig contemporary issue

Wasn't the original (with different cover art) on David Axelrod's 'HiFi Jazz' label ?

Yes - my mate had a British edition of the HiFiJazz record. It has a very nice painting of a rather ruddy fox on it.

I didn't know Axelrod owned HiFiJazz. I thought it was all part of Gene Norman's outfit.

In the process of packing, I came across a couple LPs I haven't listened to for a long time. So tonight I'm enjoying Blue Montreaux I and II, which I've only seen on CD in partial form. Good Brecker-style funkiness. :)

John Carter-Bobby Bradford - Flight For Four (Flying Dutchman, white label) interesting to think of how huge an influence these guys had, especially on West Coast/LA freebop of the last 30 years... would we even have a Vinny Golia without these guys? Doubtful.

Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Duke Ellington Songbook (Speakers Corner) - LP 2 - w. Ben Webster & Stuff Smith

Nice Paul, Know anyone who discounts this one ? Its $120 in my neck of the woods.

Haven't seen it discounted, unfortunately. I agonized a while before I went for it.

Gene Ludwig - Organ out loud

MG

What label is that record on and who are the sidemen?

I have a record of GL on Muse (recorde in the 70's) which I particularly like.

Thanks,

Peter

It's on Mainstream 6032. It was originally issued on Time 2199 under the title of "Hot organ". Recorded in Oct '64.

Personnel is:

Randy Gelispie - drums

Jerry Byrd - guitar

Tunes are:

Comin' home baby (Tucker)

Teach me tonight (Raye-DePaul)

Blues waltz (Max Roach)

Elder Smith (Ludwig)

Moanin' (Timmons)

Sermonette (Nat Adderley)

The Preacher (Silver)

Gino (Ludwig)

It's a proper groove throughout. And it's LOUD! (Like it sez on mine) And HOT! (Like it sez on the original)

MG

Hello, just wanted to clarify that the original LP recording was indeed "Organ Out Loud" on Mainstream in 1964, followed by a re-issue and re-package by Time Records under the name "Hot Organ" in 1967. I'm glad you like the recording.

Gene Ludwig

Thank you so much Gene.

A more than usually cordial welcome to you!

Any idea where one can get "Educated sounds of Gene Ludwig" and "This is Gene Ludwig"? They're the only 2 I haven't got.

MG

Thank you for the welcome. My wife has seen both of these LP's on E-bay in the past several years, in fact in the past several months. I hope you can find them. Gene - www.geneludwig.com

Something else I have to learn how to do - buy things on E-Bay. And I can't even get registered for Paypal properly :)
