Updated to say that I am enjoying the sound of this one. A good release. It will be interesting to cross-check against Mosaic’s treatment. Certainly trounces the CD set on the sonic front.

Those Spotlite LPs were treasures. So much until then unheard Bird. I love this album. Especially the first tracks with the Dizzy Band at Billie Berg´s ......, but also the stuff from the Finale with Miles......who sounds very much influenced by Dizzy on that.....

Picked up the RSD release today along with the Squirrel (haven't spun yet, probably will get to it tomorrow). Mighty fine indeed.

I have that pre-ordered on CD.

Any thoughts on the sonics for ‘The Squirrel’?

Harold Mabern - Rakin' and Scrapin' (Prestige)
OJC vinyl reissue

This is home cookin', right here. Hard bop with a southern accent. LOVE it.

Typica of the live recordings of the era is my best description. I had not heard the previous cd release so I can’t compare it to that, but I would say a bit flat sounding dynamically and like they took a mono recording and made it stereo (I’m guessing they did but haven’t researched it) but it is immaculately pressed.

Many thanks for that. I’ll probably stick with Spotify, as it’s available there. Sounds like a good gig - hadn’t heard it before.

Definitely a great gig. Dexter was in top form.
