Spinning Pete LaRoca's "Basra" off the recently released 80th Anniversary LP. This is a very nice sounding LP. Kevin Gray seems to be able to coax the right sounds out of these master tapes. Side 1 actually has what looks like the right amount of dead wax too. :) Side 2 is back to the typical inch and half of dead wax though.

Basra (album) - Wikipedia

Wish they would put that one out in the TP series though (if only for what would be a definitive sleeve). I guess though that they did a MM 2x45 - forgetting that I have that one somewhere. We are spoilt !

Dollar Brand/Abdullah Ibrahim - Ode to Duke Ellington (Inner City, originally West Wind)

A powerful tribute.  Very personal, nothing rote about it.

Was listening to that yesterday! Beautiful tribute indeed. The version of In A Sentimental Mood is beautiful and show some signs of the style he played in in his later days.

Luke Winslow-King - I'm Glad Trouble Don't Last Always.

This was a bandcamp purchase when they waived artist fees. I've spun it twice since getting it yesterday, but the B side 4 times in total. This got me thinking how uncommon it is to enjoy a B side more than an A side, given most albums are constructed to be front heavy, or at least that used to be how you constructed albums.

Played that yesterday, very much like it

Are you on commission from the BN Tone Poet dept?  If not, you should be

Yes, it is very good. Never heard a version of this one with Blakey’s drums so crisp.

The trouble with this series is that buy one, it grows on you then threatens to take over your house like Day of the Triffids. They are not exactly small.

Liberty Pressing, stereo.

I will be doing a UK Liberty vs. Tone Poet check this weekend.

I was going to include the French Pathe Marconi version but think I can safely discount that one from the mix. :)
