Maybe it'll still be there when they reopen this fall. I have the "complete" cd version too, but I find it's too much: false starts, chat, etc,. Plus the essays on the booklet aren't really much enlightening, so I got this one and I am going to sell the cd box set. BTW the japanese vinyl is top notch in my copy, dead quiet like a cd. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted June 12, 2020 Report Posted June 12, 2020 yeah, I don't even have enough room for any more boxed sets, but this seems essential. The other Japanese Verve set I have, the Bird one, is dead silent indeed. Quote

It had been on my wishlist for a while and when a copy in the US popped up a couple weeks ago I jumped on it. Picked up Tatsuya Nakamura's Rip-Off too just because of combined shipping but haven spun it yet. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted June 15, 2020 Report Posted June 15, 2020 I haven't heard Rip-Off but it looks good; the previous couple of ensemble records are excellent. Quote
Gheorghe Posted June 16, 2020 Report Posted June 16, 2020 Today I was in the mood for that wonderful solo LP of Lee Konitz. Two extended versions of Bird associated songs. Really fine how Mr. Konitz works it out. Quote
sidewinder Posted June 16, 2020 Report Posted June 16, 2020 Tone Poet version of ‘The Prisoner’. Lovely crisp sound, particularly Tootie Heath on drums - I’ll have to check against my Liberty but this will probably end up being the go-to version. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted June 16, 2020 Report Posted June 16, 2020 Spinning Pete LaRoca's "Basra" off the recently released 80th Anniversary LP. This is a very nice sounding LP. Kevin Gray seems to be able to coax the right sounds out of these master tapes. Side 1 actually has what looks like the right amount of dead wax too. Side 2 is back to the typical inch and half of dead wax though. Quote
