JSngry Posted April 2, 2020 Report Posted April 2, 2020 I know nothing about that Columbia Records Gavin Gordon other than this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gavin_Gordon_(composer) It's a nice enough piece, just as the record is a nice enough record. Nice enough... There are other Gavin Gordons, though, and not just that one one the electrohousetrancedance record: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gavin_Gordon But hey, maybe "Gavin Gordon" is the name of a mysterious spirit that keeps itself alive in random bodies all over the English-speaking world. Who knows, one day you - or I - could wake up and be Gavin Gordon. The speeds of our constructional molecules being what they are these days, I'd be ready for anything! Quote
sidewinder Posted April 2, 2020 Report Posted April 2, 2020 (edited) Big John Patton ‘Memphis to New York ‘Split’ (Spirit)’ German Blue Note Liberty, stereo. Looks mint - and plays like it ! Noticeably more ‘oomph’ than the Rare Groove LP. Van Gelder in the runout. Edited April 2, 2020 by sidewinder Quote

There's no fixed foundation for the 5; it would be contrary to its vibration. The 5 may be doing something and be intensely interested in it, and the next moment be interested in something else entirely and immediately pursue the new interest. The number 5 is curious and interested in pretty much everything. 5 is sensual, sensing life and its various intensities and vibrations as it flows through 5's essence. 5 experiences what interests it by observing and feeling and interacting with full focus — while it's still interested. I was wondering... that gorgeous picture of the percussion set-up on the inside of the gatefold of the album surely wasn't taken at Van Gelder's? Then I noticed it was only the piece "L-R-G", not the whole album, that was recorded there. Anyway, it's a great album and it sounds terrific. Quote

Or, at the very least, allow someone to conduct an extended interview (over multiple days), to capture your experiences as oral history. ... I suppose you could even "interview yourself," Glenn Gould-style. It would be a valuable addition to the valuable contributions that you've already made to jazz as a producer and label owner. Seriously. Quote

I know that Nonesuch licensed & released Horenstein's recordings of Mahler's First and Third. There may have been more. His Mahler Sixth also? Horenstein's M3 may be his most famous recording, but I think his M1 is even better. EDIT: Just checked discogs. Nonesuch also released Horenstein's M6 with the Stockholm PO. I've never heard that one. Edited April 3, 2020 by HutchFan Quote
