HutchFan Posted November 13, 2019 Report Posted November 13, 2019 (edited) My LP is actually a Verve "MPS Series" reissue. Even though there's not a lot of room to stretch out, Lockjaw & Joe Newman are still on board as the soloists on their respective instruments. Two voices that are always good to hear. Plus, Chico O'Farrill arrangements. Edited November 13, 2019 by HutchFan Quote

HutchFan Posted November 15, 2019 Report Posted November 15, 2019 Lester Young - "Prez" Vol. II (Pablo) Wonderful music -- and an evocative cover photo. I think the OJC CD reissue ruined the cover by splashing words across the image and altering the color. In the big scheme of things, it's nothing. ... But I'm going to stick with the vinyl. Quote
HutchFan Posted November 15, 2019 Report Posted November 15, 2019 Listened to this straight through and then started it over again for a second listen. Quote

Eddie "Who" Harris always is a pleasure to listen to. I think when I was a young guy, his "Compare to what" was one of the best selling albums. I had the imense luck to see him live almost every day for at least a week, maybe even 10 days in a then existing very very small Viennese jazz club "Spelunke". Now if I think About it, I wonder how that was possible, a world star for such an extended gig in such a small club…… Quote
Misterioso Posted November 15, 2019 Report Posted November 15, 2019 (edited) Spinning Dwight Trible on Gondwana Records tonight: Inspirations (2017) and Colors (2018). The latter includes a beautiful version of "The Creator has a Master Plan." Edited November 15, 2019 by Misterioso Quote

That's VERY cool that you got to see him many times. Quote
