And of course, the PR vs. PRST prefix. But jackets themselves can occasionally get cronky about that, they used what they had sometimes, and it didn't always line up. Not often, but once in a while. Yup, mono it is! Thanks for making me check. I never would have thought of that. I just saw the stereo banner wrapped over the top and figured it was mistake by the person pasting on the cover. Quote
JSngry Posted May 10, 2019 Report Posted May 10, 2019 Yeah, that used to be the norm for Stereo/Mono, back when mono still sold well enough for it to matter. One cover slick for both. Usually the catalog # would be positioned in such a way that it would reflect which one it ws, but maybe at this point in Prestige history, they didn't find that a justifiable expense. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted May 10, 2019 Report Posted May 10, 2019 Mickey Tucker - The Crawl (Muse). Jazz from this era sometimes reminds me of the Johnny Carson Show's music. This LP is one of those times. This is not a bad thing, but it isn't great thing either. Junior Cook is still Junior Cook and that's a very good thing. Quote
JSngry Posted May 10, 2019 Report Posted May 10, 2019 Ok, I gotta ask - what about a Mickey Tucker record puts you in mind of Johnny Carson music? Quote

It's just the feel of this particular record. It sounds like something Johnny's band would be playing coming out of a break. It just has that "70's Jazz" sound. Again, not a bad thing, but it's a thing still. I mean there's some 70's/80's Jazz that sounds like the Bob Newhart intro. There's some that sounds like the Love Boat theme. This ain't that. Next up, Robin Kenyatta - Beggars and Stealers (Muse). Produced by my friend Michael Cuscuna. No Jim - this does not sound like something the Carson band would play. Ha ha ha. Kevin Bresnahan Posted May 10, 2019 Report Posted May 10, 2019 And now, what is turning out to be a wonderful LP so far - Clifford Jordan - The Adventurer (Muse). Tommy Flanagan, Bill Lee & Grady Tate. Killer band. I missed this when 32Jazz put it out with their usual stellar artwork. Do I really have to buy this ugly-looking CD... sigh. Quote
JSngry Posted May 11, 2019 Report Posted May 11, 2019 A good, solid, almost definitive "yeah, ok, whatever". Quote

I have that on a Camden Deluxe two-fer called "Highest Mountain": https://www.discogs.com/Clifford-Jordan-Highest-Mountain/release/4046245 Oh shit, this two-fer has "The Adventurer" on it too! Excellent. I have this in digital so I don't have to buy that crappy 32Jazz CD. Thanks for getting me to check this again. Now playing - Mickey Tucker - Mister Mysterious (Muse). Quote

Very cheap to buy and they seemed to be pressed on something other than good vinyl. Quote
