Good to know that it's lasted that long and still sounds good, and strange to realize that I bought it that long ago (when I was a teenager). 15 hours ago, mjazzg said: I wish I'd been buying music like that as a teenager. Sadly not NP. Lacy/Rudd/Grimes/Charles - School Days (Emanem) Unfortunately, not every record I bought back then was of the quality of that Monk record. When I was that age, I thought I had perfect taste and that I knew everything. I'm still learning today how much I didn't know back then and how much I don't know now. Sound is decent - call it A minus on the bootleg scale. Side one is from the Jazz Casual TV show, and is out in more complete form on DVD. Side two is special - a hard-to-find long piece called "Creation" from the Half Note in 1965, during the same run that produced the One Up, One Down: Live at the Half Note CD set. Thanks. I'll investigate Ornette Coleman - Crisis [Impulse!] one of my favourite Ornette's. Always sounds fresh and full of impact Edited March 5, 2019 by mjazzg

I am finding that one of the side effects of this ‘Galactic Ramble’ book is that having seen a review of vintage UK items such as this, there is an irresistible urge to dig out the corresponding vinyl. Always sounds fresh and full of impact Oh this one is great. I bought it when I was still very young and first I found it more difficult to listen than let´s say "Golden Circle" or "Ornette" since it is the first one that completley avoids swing. But I really learned to dig it, and it´s fantastic personnel. This, together with "Ornette at 12". the two Impulse outputs 4 hours ago, paul secor said: One of my favourits of Bird, this together with "Bird on 52nd Street" where on a Mingus associated label......, but St. Nicks is the better one, and Bird is great one rare standard ballads. Gheorghe
A nice item from the good old Spotlite Days. This was really a label full of treasures for bop fans. This one if most interesting for the playing of Howard McGhee/Brew Moore, but also the rare Bird with latin group. Also Milt Jackson "Boppin´the vibes" and a rare track of young Harry Belafonte. I think I purchased this in the late 70´s and it got a lot of spinning.
