sidewinder Posted October 6, 2018 Report Posted October 6, 2018 (edited) No, I don’t think the Harry Beckett Oguns were ever issued on CD. I have one of them. Saw Han Bennink on a couple of occasions with ICP - he did some good solos on the walls of the club ! Edited October 6, 2018 by sidewinder Quote

chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted October 9, 2018 Report Posted October 9, 2018 i dont know about that one but this is freaking essential. i have to say my label is printed with a different cti design, it is grey, looking almost like an audiophile label (vangelder stamped still- vintage) but this one here has the classic yellow cti label design Quote
JSngry Posted October 9, 2018 Report Posted October 9, 2018 wow, never seen that one before. 1982, was that part of the attempted reboot of CTI? Is this your label? That's freaky how there's two different ink colors... Oh, there's also this variant: Quote

chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted October 10, 2018 Report Posted October 10, 2018 was going to get rid of this but then i tested it and its actually not a mood music lp but jazz piano almost more of the hard bop kind. on disocgs it says he is on the split lp on guest star shared w/ don garner feat.jimmy smith-- u think it could be a pseudonim for ramsey lewis? I wouldn't bet on it. But Lewes is a VERY unusual spelling for a personal name. I used to live in a town called Lewes and I've never heard of a person by that name, not even from there. But I checked the Lord discography and there are zero musicians called Lewes in the index. Nor are there any called Wilson Lewis. So it's an open question. But this has GOT to be mid-sixties stuff and Ramsey was TOO well known and successful to be making anonymous recordings in those days. And he made four of the buggers! SURELY not!!!! MG Quote
JSngry Posted October 10, 2018 Report Posted October 10, 2018 I'd think it more likely that it was somebody we may or may not have heard of, but the record company gave him or her that name for the record to get a potential buyer either confused or at least wondering. Quote

JSngry Posted October 10, 2018 Report Posted October 10, 2018 Hell, it might even be different people on each record! Quote

I see his grandfather came from up Cumbria, which is practically in Scotland. 2 minutes ago, JSngry said: Hell, it might even be different people on each record! Quite right. Diplomat, according to Discogs, was owned by Synthetic Plastics, so isn't the kind of label one would naturally associate with being terribly straight up and down. MG Quote
