Oddly, or not, parts of it makes me think of Prime Time Yep, I thought the same thing about hearing Prime Time in this music. The Players and Peregrinations have a big, fat bottoms with a keening alto across the top -- just like Prime Time. Glad you're enjoying it. Edited September 8, 2018 by HutchFan Quote

mikeweil Posted September 8, 2018 Report Posted September 8, 2018 (edited) Congrats! Let's hear how it is after you have listened .... Now spinning a bunch of LPs - looks like I'll be in a vinyl mood for some days: Preparing for a workshop teaching Cuban conga de comparsa rhythms to a Frankfurt pecussion band. What a great encounter ..... This is great! Perfect demonstration of how black music developped in the Carribean to forms superficially similar to jazz. But they had the Carribean grooves the US producers didn't want when recording New Orleans bands. Or whatever ... Edited September 8, 2018 by mikeweil Quote

Hope it plays well. That LP, 'Tenor sax favorites vol 3' was the start of Bob Weinstock really comprehending what to do with Jug. Each side is a complete session of preferred takes. After that, there was 'Woofin' n tweeting' then a load of bop jam sessions that were unsuitable for him, but probably fine for parties. MG Quote

No, but Bob produced 'The 78 era' so he may have got it privately from Fantasy back in the day when it existed. I didn't know that. I expect stuff is pricey and will have big money for postage here added. Oh well. MG PS - curiosity got the better of me. There's another copy of the same session in for the spring... Oh, is that it, and it's past tense? Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted September 8, 2018 Report Posted September 8, 2018 that must be when the guy got it. he sure turned it around fast. but i emailed him and he said they are definetly alternate takes, so i went ahead with it Quote

clifford_thornton Posted September 9, 2018 Report Posted September 9, 2018 Nice score, chewy. Try to record it somehow as acetates can't stand many plays before wearing out, even with a modern stylus. Now: Miles -- Get Up With It -- (Columbia, US) Quote
