Kenny Graham, Don Rendell etc. ‘Tenorama’ (Nixa DG mono)

Of those I saw Rendell and Skidmore, latter with Humphrey Lyttelton. Nice to think I saw the Skidmores, father and son - same for the Traceys, come to think of it.

Also caught Don Rendell a few times (the last time was at Ian Carr’s tribute concert) as well as both Traceys in various Stan Tracey groups on quite a few occasions. I’ve also got the Stan Tracey bio by Clark on order. Have seen Alan Skidmore a few times too but I don’t think I ever saw his Dad.

Kenny Graham way before my time but I can remember seeing performances by Humph’s group where he announced a Kenny Graham arrangement. That group had Kathy Stobart, a superb and very under-rated tenorist (not unlike the present day Karen Sharp in style).

Interesting to hear about the Stan Tracey biog. A few years ago, not long after the death of Stan, I spoke to Clark about his Dad, telling him I was currently reading autobiogs by Peter King and Vic Ash which mentioned him. As if as an afterthought, Clark ran after me to say I'd have a new biog to read, as he would be writing one about Stan. Having heard nothing of this for a few years, I assumed that the idea had been forgotten, but apparently not. Yes, I shall be reading it.

Yes, it is out on Equinox/Northway and has had very favourable reviews. I’ve also got the Graham Collier bio by Duncan Heining on order too, also put out by Northway so some good reading coming up.

Must get hold of the Peter King.

I still have that Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Vanguard Orch. tome to read too !

i spun this today and decided to sell it back (after having it in my collection a long time)-  Image result for miles fillies de

I'm starting to really wonder if Miles taking Herbie and Wayne really meant "progress".  Give me Wayne with Art Blakey over anything, thats where hes really playing some stuff.  Im sorry dawg, im just not feelin this one anymore.

You'll be sorry later.

Another blast from the past.  I remember these - it really makes me feel old.

A very good and not very well known LP on the Lansdowne Series. Starts off with a suite by Johnny Scott with strings, then some Shake Keane Quartet material followed by material from Ray Prebru’s group and the Alan Clare trio. Beautifully recorded by Adrian Kerridge.

I believe that many of these ‘Tete a Tete’ performances were done on a regular basis at the Festival Hall and broadcast by Beeb radio. This copy of the LP personalised with nice message and signed by Mr Burman himself !

Thankfully Spotify enables me to enjoy it. Seems to be available as a dl from Trunk too

Never knew it was on there ! Jonny T. must have done it as one of those 50p specials and I guess the royalties period has now passed.

It will be interesting to check out the remaster (needle drop? ) but I have to say, the mono vinyl sounds exceptional.

I'm pretty sure the Tete a Tetes were regular. I can't recall he locations or any BBC broadcasts
