Clunky Posted July 12, 2018 Report Posted July 12, 2018 Freddie McCoy————Peas and Rice———-(Prestige) RVG 1967 Joanne Brackeen on the piano or organ on all tracks bar one. Pleasant album with some variety and just enough grease. Quote

That looks enticing. I have volume 2 from that series -- the LP with Hutcherson -- but not vols 1 or 3. I know that Buster plays beautifully on Firebirds. He's such a monster. Quote

HutchFan Posted July 12, 2018 Report Posted July 12, 2018 I was confused. I only have vol. 1. This one: I didn't realize that Hutch was on vol. 3. I'll need to get it then! Quote

I'll need to get it then! I'm now playing this one to complete the afternoon's Lawsha listen (unless I get to the studio Firebirds next) I've been confused by the three volumes for years - different line ups, different festivals, partial CD reissues but I got there in the end If you like volume 1 you'll have no worries with volume 3, unless short LPs worry you. It clocks in at just over 31 minutes but 31 terrific minutes - quality not quantity Edited July 12, 2018 by mjazzg Quote

The only problem might be FINDING volume 3. There's one listed on Discogs now -- but it's priced at $45.58. Yikes! Quote

I may have to buy a couple of subs for this label. Sucks but I've waited long enough for the individual titles to come out and nothing yet. They appear to be sticking to their business model... I doubt it'll work so I might as well grab the records while they're still afloat. Quote

It is a nice package and pressing. Quote

clifford_thornton Posted July 14, 2018 Report Posted July 14, 2018 Josiah Steinbrick -- Meeting of Waters -- (Banana Environments, US) beautiful electro-acoustic percussive soundscapes housed in a handsome book of scores/artworks. Really a nice 'thing' as well as being a fine musical statement. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted July 14, 2018 Report Posted July 14, 2018 Music of the Vai of Liberia -- (Folkways, US) gorgeous later Ethnic Folkways title. Quote
