sidewinder Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 Hank Jones 'Have You Met Hank Jones' (UK London mono). Nice solo session, released in US on Savoy. Quote
BruceH Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 I've been spinning a lot of Talking Heads lately, particularly the first three albums. More Songs About Buildings and Food is still my favorite after all these years. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 Barre Phillips - Basse Barre - (Futura) French pressing of this classic recital of solo bass. Amazing music, never fails to make me feel that sense of connection with art/music/life/self/wood/string/humanity... Quote
clifford_thornton Posted April 13, 2006 Report Posted April 13, 2006 Iskra 1903 - Improvisations - (DGG Free Improvisation box, record 2) skittery but somehow quite relaxing and easy to study to. Environmental skronk! Quote

clifford_thornton Posted April 15, 2006 Report Posted April 15, 2006 Franz Koglmann and Steve Lacy - Flaps - (Pipe original) rather disturbed '73 recording with Gerd Geier (live electronics), Walter M. Malli (drums) and Toni Michlmayr (bass)... Quote
clifford_thornton Posted April 16, 2006 Report Posted April 16, 2006 Howard Riley Trio - Discussions - (Opportunity) great and rare first trio with Barry Guy and Jon Hiseman, a balance and a tension between very free interaction and straight-ahead song forms. Even in '67, Guy was creating some very dense string action! (and before anybody gets their undies in a bunch, this is the Japanese reissue from a few years ago, not the $2,000+ original) Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted April 16, 2006 Report Posted April 16, 2006 Sonny Rollins in Japan, 9/30/73. The "newest" Rollins I own. Quote
marcello Posted April 16, 2006 Report Posted April 16, 2006 I love that one; I have a soft spot for it. What ever happened to David Lee? I believe Masou is in NYC. Quote

There was also a very limited reissue with both black and white covers I believe. Quote

Got it new from a Japanese dealer and it was still an arm and a leg... Quote

Got it new from a Japanese dealer and it was still an arm and a leg... I can believe it. The only reissue I've seen was over £100 so don't even want to think what the original might raise. Kari S Posted April 17, 2006 Report Posted April 17, 2006 Bennie Maupin's "MOONSCAPES" from 1978... Pretty awful stuff Bennie's blowing, well like Bennie, high in the upper register all the time, over some very commercial sounding beats... Quote
