I like ALL of Martino's Muse recordings, but Consciousness and Live are my two faves. 32 Jazz reissued them in a 2-CD set called Head and Heart. Along with One, Two, Free, don't overlook Martino's work with Kloss on Sky Shadows (also featuring Jaki Byard). 8 hours ago, mjazzg said: Pat Martino - We'll Be Together Again [Muse] spare and beautiful duets with Gil Goldstein on electric piano. I need some more Martino of this vintage, I think I LOVE that LP too. Funny that sidewinder mentioned bringing some LPs to a Martino gig. I did the same at a performance here in Georgia and got We'll Be Together Again signed. Martino was very gracious and friendly -- and he put on a helluva show! Edited April 26, 2018 by HutchFan Quote

mjazzg Posted April 26, 2018 Report Posted April 26, 2018 (edited) 'Big' John Patton - Blue John [Blue Note, France] Not sure how many times I've looked at this cover and not spotted "George Braithwaite". He loses the "waite" on the back cover. Music's still good Edited April 26, 2018 by mjazzg Quote

Clunky Posted April 27, 2018 Report Posted April 27, 2018 Paul Jeffrey—/———Electrifying sounds of Paul Jeffrey ————( Harkit UK) recent reissue of Savoy 1968 recording. Comes with CD,new liner notes by Simon Spillett. Hard to know if this is a boot. Sound is fine (perhaps a shade dull ) but Savoy recordings of this era weren’t too consistent. Music great of course Quote

If I only could keep one of them, it would be this one. More so than most PB recordings, this is a meeting of equally strong musicians, PB is not dominating here and maybe not as forceful as in some of his other recordings. The result is stunning. My copy is a reissue from Trost Records. Highly recommended. Quote

I typed something recently about another Brotzmann recording being at the Jazzier end of the spectrum and I think the same goes for this. The rhythm section really lay down something that PB responds to in a very responsive manner and perhaps less assertive than on many of his recordings. This is another good one with Hopkins onboard Quote
