Dan Gould Posted February 13, 2018 Report Posted February 13, 2018 Curtis Peagler and the Jazz Disciples had a 45 out on Columbia, two years after their initial splash on the scene. Definitely surprised to discover this so I went for it from an Amazon seller. Nice. Quote

jeffcrom Posted February 16, 2018 Report Posted February 16, 2018 (edited) Clayton Love - Come on Home Blues (Red Lightnin' 10" LP) Recorded live in a club in St. Louis sometime in the 1970s, I think. One of the best hours of my life was spent in a hot, steamy, run-down theater in Clarksdale, Mississippi - in 1994, probably. After a set by Little Bill Wallace (Wadada Leo Smith's stepfather), Love and his band played an amazing set of blues and R & B much like this album. Of course, he played and sang "The Big Question," his hit with Ike Turner's Kings of Rhythm, and also Turner's "I'm Tore Up," originally sung by Billy Gayles. He does both of those songs here. I was at the gig and wonder whether subconsciously I'm trying to preserve that live experience which would be odd as my memory of the performance is getting more hazy. I should break open the LP, I guess Quote

I should break open the LP, I guess I can understand. It must have been a great evening. I am not sure but it seems the Sonore trio is no longer active, at least I am not aware of any recent performances. I certainly would have liked to see them. I selected this LP yesterday after watching the documentary "Soldier of the Road" about PB, which includes a great performance of Sonore in Wuppertal 2008 and interviews with the members. I am very greatful to Trost records for releasing and re-issuing a good part of the Brotzmann catalog on vinyl. Edited February 17, 2018 by Misterioso Typos :-( Quote
jeffcrom Posted February 17, 2018 Report Posted February 17, 2018 Steve Lacy/Ulrich Gumpert - Deadline (Sound Aspects). I avoided this record for years because Lacy said not to buy it, since it was mastered at the wrong speed. When I got a variable speed turntable a couple of years ago, I realized that I could rectify the problem. It helps that the first track, "Art," starts with a single note - C - on the piano. Eugene Chadbourne's review on Allmusic can be safely ignored - it's an excellent album. The Lee Konitz Nonet (Roulette). I'm really enjoying this one tonight. Quote
