Anthony Davis quartet - Song For The Old World [India Navigation]

all four, Davis, Hoggard, Helias and Blackwell impress but it's Blackwell that really shines

one for the "not on CD" thread, perhaps

Indeed. :tup

Jimmy Lyons/Sunny Murray, Jump Up/What to do About (Hat Hut). RIP Sunny Murray. The only guy not listed on the cover--John Lindberg--is really impressive on this one.

was supposed to be Alan Silva on bass but there was some sort of travel screwup (iirc) and he couldn't make the date.

Trane: Ballads

I think of this album as the equivalent of Monk Plays Ellington - an attempt to feature a musician who had a "difficult" reputation (at least with those who didn't make an honest attempt to listen) in a more conventional setting. I have no idea whether it worked in either case, but I like both records.

Interesting! Glad the replacement worked out so well.

Susanne Lautenbacher, Biber -- Sonatas for Violin (Vox). Nice 1960s recording of the Mystery Sonatas, mastered by RVG.

Lester Young, The President Plays with the Oscar Peterson Trio (Verve)

Joe Wilder Quartet, Jazz from Peter Gunn (Columbia). TV theme music but Joe Wilder and Hank Jones both sound fabulous on this quartet album.
