Next on deck:- Tony Crombie and His Men 'Atmosphere' (UK Columbia mono). A rare late-50s LP with Tubby Hayes and Ronnie Scott. Can't believe I picked it up for the grand total of £2.50. The flimsy cover is pretty trashed but the vinyl is bordering near-mint, heavy vinyl sound is superb. I have a spare 1980's reissue sleeve so I'm sorted with this one. :D

I have beautiful memories of going to Scotts, original club 39, Gerrard Street, Soho, I used to go to the all night jazz sessions which started about midnight on a saturday. Ronnie and Tubby played their hearts out. I dont think tubby ever got the credit he deserved. I would recomend to you two vinyls I have aquired reasently, Tubby Hayes, On The Air on Harkit Records also tubby Hayes Introducing Tubbs. He was great on tenor but he was so good on flute,. vibes and anything else he wanted to play. A great talent, sadly missed. The funny thing is I went to the alnight session to see the americans.

Thanks for the recs. I do have the 'On The Air' LP on Harkitt, although it has since been withdrawn from sale due to copyright issues.

Peter Gunn - soundtrack album - Henry Mancini

Soul Meeting - Ray Charles - Milt Jackson--on Atlantic. This is one of the recordings Charles made when he was still Jazz. Nice

Downside - bit of a serious warp on the first track. Otherwise, terrific sound.

After this is over, more Ray.

Spotlight on Ray Charles and the George Brown Orchestra Vol II- Pickwick label- Design Stereo Spotlight Series.

Then will come Jazz number II - also Ray Charles with the Ray Charles Orchestra. Tangerine label. No liner notes.

And finally on the pile is Count Basie and Oscar Peterson - Night Rider - on the Pablo label from 1980.

Milt Hinton and Friends 'Here Swings the Judge' (Famous Door)

the Friends include Ben Webster, Frank Wess and Budd Johnson among others!

Ben on tenor (up to his usual standard) and playing some stride piano - no threat to Fats or James P., but interesting to hear.

Following the Earl Hines solo thread I found these LPs today

Earl Hines - MF Production 5 LPs set of solo and quartet sessions (with Budd Johnson) from 1977, very nice

Earl Hines - Solo 1956- American Recordings- playing largely his own compositions

Hines 65- Solo- on WRC label- ( not sure of original label- produced by Stanley Dance)

Finally a Columbia LP combining some trio sides from 1950 and some solos from late 20s and 30s.

all for £14- not bad for a big slice of the Earl.
