OK .... your King reissue is from 1981, when japanese Vinyl releases started to "thin out" :( ....

1981- sounds about right. Priced on the back at 2000 yen, a small fortune back then. Just shows that the correlation between vinyl thickness and potential sound quality  can often be dubious at best, not to mention the lack of a 'deep groove'.

Thankfully with this edition the correlation is not there - but was unfortunately the case with some of the japanese reissues in the mid 80`s ....

Sam Rivers (sax, fl, p), Dave Holland (b, cello), Barry Altschul (d, perc).

A lot of excitement in this one. I like Sam most on sax, then flute, then piano.  Wonder how others view his flute and piano playing?.

I like it too. Often his improvisations across instruments were very, pardon the contextual pun above, "fluid" so it seems like no matter what others were doing, it fit in. I think of someone like Daniel Carter who switches between tenor, alto and soprano saxophone, trumpet (on which he has a beautiful sound), and sometimes piano (if one is available). Instruments are tools to express a given set of ideas and if they're used to their expressive potential, who can argue?

Travis Laplante (ts), Darius Jones (as), Andrew Smiley (g), Jason Nazary (d).

Been a while since I heard this one, and found myself pleased with it. Skronky, energized, all-in.

The Clean - Compilation - (Homestead, US)

been a few years since I've had these guys on deck... never disappointing.

Classic!  Been a long time fan since "vehicle" on Rough Trade.  Was so happy when I got to see them live around 20 years ago...

Tonights spins:

Ernie Henry "presenting" (riverside, mono white label orig)

Wolfgang Dauner "free action" (Saba, Germany tree orig)
