clifford_thornton
yeah, they are really good. First two chapters are all I have now -- other than the ESP and Affinity dates -- and need to pick up those others again at some point. Tattooed Bride breaks the mood, a lot, so I usually just play Side 1 for a day or so. No, no, no. Not side 1 or side 2. The whole thing. "The Tattooed Bride" is something of a contrast, but not a mood-breaker. And it's one of Ellington's very best longer-form compositions - a really tightly-woven masterpiece. JSngry
No argument about the masterpiece part, but I have always flipped the record over out of obligation, never out of compulsion. Compulsion makes me keep playing Side 1 over and over again and again. Maybe a double 10" LP would have been ideal, but do the maths add up as far as track lengths, and did anybody even do double 10"LPs?

Clunky
Ronald Shannon Jackson -------Decode yourself-------(Island) 1980s stamped all over this. The drum machine and synth in particular. It's not without merit though with a great version of "Be-bop". Over all a bit Prime Time like. Overall interesting

clifford_thornton
Always liked that one; I recall that it was actually a Beauchamp/Finn date released under the AEC's aegis.

Against their will. Beauchamp/Finn did this at least one more time. Edited August 12, 2016 by Chuck Nessa
clifford_thornton
Yeah, thanks. I thought it was something weird like this but guessed it was the label's fault. Wasn't the Archie Shepp/Philly Joe LP also a Beauchamp-Finn date?

Homefromtheforest
Wayne Shorter "the all seeing eye" (Blue Note, stereo NY USA). I've had the RVG CD since it was released and finally got an original vinyl recently that is not plagued by the usual ringwear. What a lineup on this record! James Spaulding, Grachan, Freddie, Ron, Herbie, and Joe. Oh and Alan too on one cut!

Homefromtheforest
Jazz Workshop Bochum 1965 (Columbia, Germany). Today's find. A NM copy of this album featuring Rolf Kuhn, Roman Dylag, Idrees Sulieman, Ronnie Ross, Andrej Trzaskowski, and more. Excellent music and well recorded too! Paid $50 cad for it and feel it's worth every penny as I play it!
