May be it was just bad luck but I've had this session on an Atlantic original and original UK LP issue , both were dire sounding. The recent  'Japanese ' Euro version on CD sounded just so much better.

I've got a US Atlantic mono original - don't recall it being that bad but will dig it out today and check. Those '3000 Yen' CDs are the dog's boll*x..

Tony Williams morning ...

Spring -----(BN NYC mono)

Lifetime -----(BN NYC mono)

I'd forgotten just how good these two are. Both a right at the top of Blue Note's more avantgard offerings. In his later years I always find TW to be a bit heavy handed with the finesse shown here fading from his playing .

Long session tonight.

Masabumi Kikuchi "matrix" (Victor, Japan reissue)

Carlos Santana/John McLaughlin/Larry Young "love devotion surrender" (Columbia, USA quadraphonic pressing)

Stanley Turrentine "up at mintons vol.1" (blue note, ny/47w63rd hybrid mono "ear")

Azimuth "s/t" (ECM, Germany) love this album..took me about 3 copies to find a mint one with no lamination peels or crackles/pops

Jimmy Rowles Plays Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn (Columbia)

Such a great record. I think Rowles is especially inspired on the side with the Strayhorn compositions.

Listening to it the other day, I felt I had a sense of what recording these songs meant to Jimmy Rowles.

just got a white label promo of this-- my favorite of candidos abc-paramount releases....the others can get a lil tacky in song selection or arrangements-*- this one is the one w/ candidos working band, lots of soloing, st. thomas and a night in tunisia are played....

*i blame abc-paramount
