jazzbo Posted February 25, 2016 Report Posted February 25, 2016 What a band! Not listed on the cover is Claude Hopkins piano and Arvell Shaw bass. The Teagarden side is excellent! Quote
jazzbo Posted February 25, 2016 Report Posted February 25, 2016 (edited) Listening to this one because it is mostly a reissue of a '66 lp where Willie plays a Jazzmaster, and I wanted to hear that. Willie got a great sound from the Jazzmaster, which is such a versatile guitar. This is the original LP that is reissued here with one newer track added: Edited February 26, 2016 by jazzbo Quote

This was almost a nessa release. It was recorded by Duke Ellington and his sister Ruth was selling them. Sadly, I didn't have the necessary $5000. Quote

Homefromtheforest Posted February 26, 2016 Report Posted February 26, 2016 Finally caved in and bought the recent Art Yard reissue of "omniverse" by Sun Ra. Got it in the mail today so while I flipped through it I spun: Sun Ra "sleeping beauty" (Saturn, USA) Sun Ra "on Jupiter" (Saturn, USA) Sun Ra "blue delight" (A&M, USA) this is a loooong record! About 60 mins...and with Tommy Turrentine and Billy Higgins! Underrated album... Quote

My copy of the Art Yard book is on its way from Portobello Road. I suspect that once this printing has gone it will become very elusive once more. Edited February 27, 2016 by sidewinder Quote
