I would have preferred to hear another drummer on this. Or no drummer at all - Buell Neidlinger carries the rhythm on his own.

Probably .... but as you've rightly mentioned Buell Neidlinger's playing is stunningly authoritative here ....

Which reminds me of Neidlinger`s cooperations with Marty Krystall as this Antilles release (includes hearworthy readings of Monk and Ellington compositions) yet to be re-reased on CD:
