Sonny Meets Hawk! (RCA Fr.)

Sometimes when I listen to this, it sounds like a great record. At other times, it sounds like a spectacular fiasco. This listen, my impressions fluctuated from track to track. At the very least, it keeps me listening.

---is this a bootleg dawg?  i didnt know where to file this.  i have it filed currently next to these earl hines sides on "audiofidelity" that are from the late 70s

Not a bootleg at all. Chiaroscuro label. Produced by Hank O'Neal. Recorded I believe in '73. File under "Buddy Tate".

Have had this LP in my collection for decades. Probably only listened to it 3 times when I bought it. Haven't listened to it since. What a fool I've been. This is a magnificent record. I hate to use the word "perfect" to describe a jazz record because perfection isn't the goal in jazz necessarily. But everything about this record is right and good.  The jazz stars were aligned that day. The jazz gods smiled upon this session.

It's sat in my racks unplayed for years now so many thanks for the reminder !

I saw Teddy live a few years before he passed, very rare club appearance in NYC. Predictably great. The one time I caught him on the West Coast he had his arm in a sling and couldn't play. Still fronted the band though !
