clifford_thornton Posted November 19, 2015 Report Posted November 19, 2015 Electrum is okay - wouldn't throw down a lot of money on it but it's a decent, not-uninteresting record. Quote
corto maltese Posted November 19, 2015 Report Posted November 19, 2015 Well, "okay" or "decent" just isn't enough, is it ? Not when there's so much good, great and brilliant around. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted November 19, 2015 Report Posted November 19, 2015 yeah, but how does one know "brilliant"Â if there isn't any "decent/solid" to compare it to? Quote

clifford_thornton Posted November 19, 2015 Report Posted November 19, 2015 Ha, that reminds me of some of the pieces in An Anthology, which I was just going through the other night. 2 hours ago, JSngry said: First World Problem! Every problem in this community is likely a fwp. Sigh. Quote

clifford_thornton Posted November 20, 2015 Report Posted November 20, 2015 Couldn't resist getting one of those some years ago even though I already had the regular Incus pressing. Picked up one with an Alan Davie print. Quote

jeffcrom Posted November 21, 2015 Report Posted November 21, 2015 Pretty Baby Soundtrack (ABC). Don't laugh. I've never seen the movie, but the soundtrack album is one of the great New Orleans jazz albums of the 1970s. Kid Thomas Valentine, Raymond Burke, Louis Cottrell, Louis Nelson, Bob Greene, and the New Orleans Ragtime Orchestra with Lionel Ferbos are all on board. James Booker even contributes a vocal on Jelly's "Whinin' Boy." This is the third copy I've owned; the first two sounded terrible and not great, respectively. I just found a sealed copy; I'm playing it for the first time, and it sounds pretty good. Quote

B. Clugston Posted November 22, 2015 Report Posted November 22, 2015 John Coltrane, Soultrane + and the Red Garland Trio (Analogue Productions). Great stuff from the Prestige era. Steve Lacy, School Days (QED). All Monk, before it was fashionable, with Roswell Rudd. Quote
sidewinder Posted November 22, 2015 Report Posted November 22, 2015 Woods/Byrd 'The Young Bloods' (Esquire). Â Great rhythm section of Al Haig, Teddy Kotick and Charlie Persip on this one, something for a 'comeback' for Haig back at the time of issue. Quote
AllenLowe Posted November 22, 2015 Report Posted November 22, 2015 interesting session, but Al, post-alcoholic binges, shows the first signs of deterioration, so I have a little trouble listening; it's a continuity thing; he will start a phrase and just lose the momentum, and start all over. This was a bigger problem in the '70s when I knew him. Quote
