Clunky Posted March 2, 2015 Report Posted March 2, 2015 Elton Dean Quintet----------Welcomet-----------(impetus) Rather one dimensionally recorded gig from Brazil 1986. Harry Beckett in fine form as is Paul Rutherford. Bass and drum are poorly served on an otherwise interesting recording. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted March 3, 2015 Report Posted March 3, 2015 Mal Waldron "free at last" (ECM, Germany) original gatefold issue with music notation booklet I know that version exists, but I don't think I've ever seen it in the flesh. Quote

clifford_thornton Posted March 3, 2015 Report Posted March 3, 2015 how is that? Dig both on their own, so I guess I should dig it, right? Price has been around $30-$40 for a while now (sure I know you paid $7.98 at most!). Quote
colinmce Posted March 3, 2015 Report Posted March 3, 2015 I have a dub from a library CD. It's great. Need to track down a copy. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted March 3, 2015 Report Posted March 3, 2015 I know a dude in Japan who has a copy for around $30 - if you need, carpe and diem as the mod says! Got too much to sort through already... Quote

Price has been around $30-$40 for a while now (sure I know you paid $7.98 at most!). Can't remember - probably paid around $10. Good enough record to hang onto and listen to - and I'm pretty choosey these days. Quote

Homefromtheforest Posted March 4, 2015 Report Posted March 4, 2015 Tony Oxley-----------The Baptized Traveller--------(CBS Realm) Wonderful session of great beauty, even the pressing is good Really!? That's rare. I went through two visually mint copies of this one until I gave up and got a mint Japanese issue on Sony that has no clicks or pops whatsoever. For some reason I had better luck with my UK issue of "four compositions" which only has a few isolated pops... Quote
clifford_thornton Posted March 4, 2015 Report Posted March 4, 2015 yeah, my CBS Oxleys don't sound all that great. They look fine. Quote
Clunky Posted March 4, 2015 Report Posted March 4, 2015 Few clicks here and there but nothing distracting. Quote
jeffcrom Posted March 5, 2015 Report Posted March 5, 2015 Cecil Taylor Unit - Live in Vienna (Leo). As Units go, the version with Carlos Ward, Leroy Jenkins, William Parker, and Thurman Barker was not the most connected to Cecil's message/vision, in my opinion. But this is still pretty good music. The double LP is around 20 minutes longer than the CD. Quote

Most of mine have the occasional clicks and pops apart from the Frank Ricotti, which is near mint. That one was a good deal at ÂŁ15 from Mole Jazz. Having said that, I prefer to listen to all of these on the 1990s reissue CDs - sound is usually superior to the Realm LPs. Edited March 5, 2015 by sidewinder Quote
