clifford_thornton Posted February 25, 2015 Report Posted February 25, 2015 nice - I'll have to pick up the next reasonably-priced copy I encounter. It's nice one from the early days of Ocora. More ritualistic than musical than some of the other African recordings from that period, but really fascinating. yeah, the ritualistic stuff is where it's at. Quote
sidewinder Posted February 25, 2015 Report Posted February 25, 2015 'Ritualistic Jazz'... Is this some sort of cult I'm missing out on? Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted February 25, 2015 Report Posted February 25, 2015 It was in issue #377 of "the wire" magazine Quote

Homefromtheforest Posted February 26, 2015 Report Posted February 26, 2015 Miles Davis "workin" (prestige, USA). A rare find a few years back...an original review copy in pristine condition..not a click to be heard which is rare for prestige pressings! Quote

JohnS Posted February 26, 2015 Report Posted February 26, 2015 Prompted by discussion elsewhere on the board. Can't say that Fresh does much for me. On the other hand I can still remember the hit I got when I first spun The Flam. Quote
kh1958 Posted February 26, 2015 Report Posted February 26, 2015 Fred Kaz, Eastern Exposure (Atlantic mono). good one. I was just reading that Fred Kaz died last year, and had spent his last 30 years as the musical director at Second City in Chicago. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted February 26, 2015 Report Posted February 26, 2015 I think I knew he had passed, but didn't remember what else he did. That's pretty cool. Quote

soulpope Posted February 27, 2015 Report Posted February 27, 2015 Air: Air Lore (Arista Novus) I've had a hard time connecting with this record since it was released. Heard more things tonight, so perhaps there's a chance for the two of us. Fred Hopkins was a magnificent bass player. Agreed..... Quote
kh1958 Posted February 28, 2015 Report Posted February 28, 2015 Herbie Mann, The Common Ground (Atlantic blue/green label), and The Modern Jazz Quartet, Pyramid (Atlantic, black label mono). Quote
jeffcrom Posted February 28, 2015 Report Posted February 28, 2015 Frank Lowe Orchestra - Lowe & Behold (Musicworks). Mr. Lowe is being discussed and played around here, which prompted me to dig out this 1977 rarity. It's maybe less than the sum of its parts, but well worth spinning every once in a while. Quote

sidewinder Posted February 28, 2015 Report Posted February 28, 2015 (edited) Howard McGhee 'Live is Just A Bowl of Cherries' (Bethlehem/London). Quite an unusual 1956 session with the 'Bethlehem Strings' Considering that this record is 60 years old it is still archival quality. Amazing really.. Edited February 28, 2015 by sidewinder Quote
