Leeway Posted February 6, 2015 Report Posted February 6, 2015 It's the influence of that "Bonandrini sound" - c'mon, everyone knows that! Yes, that pasta and wine has its effects! Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted February 7, 2015 Report Posted February 7, 2015 Muhal Richard Adams, piano, percussion, voice, synthetizer. - Joseph Jarman, soprano sax, alto sax, bass say, voice, bassoon, alto clarinet, flute, percussion. - Douglas Ewart: B clarinet, bass clarinet, flute, bassoon, soprano sax, alto sax, tenor sax, african flute, percussion, voice. - Amina Claudine Myers: piano, percussion, voice. - Thurman Barker: trap drums, percussion, marimba, timpany, bells. I was in the control room for that session. Cuscuna missed his flight to Chicago, called me and I just sat back and let Muhal run things. IIRC, I forgot a scarf in the studio. This is a habit. Quote

Great story--and recording. Worth the scarf, LOL. Quote

Homefromtheforest Posted February 7, 2015 Report Posted February 7, 2015 Sun Ra "visits planet earth" (Saturn, USA). Have not played this red label original in many years..even though the vinyl looks great there is almost constant soft crackles in the background Still at least the music overpowers and I love the cover art! Homefromtheforest Posted February 7, 2015 Report Posted February 7, 2015 Sun Ra "cosmic tones for mental therapy" (Saturn, USA). A favorite of mine...love the liberal use of archaic delay/reverb! Quote
jeffcrom Posted February 7, 2015 Report Posted February 7, 2015 Sun Ra "cosmic tones for mental therapy" (Saturn, USA). A favorite of mine...love the liberal use of archaic delay/reverb! One of my favorite Ra albums as well, although I only have a CD reissue. There's almost no reference to any musical world except the one Ra created. Listening to something very different this morning: Hollywood Saxophone Quartet - Sax Appeal (Liberty). Arrangements (and originals) by Lennie Niehaus. Quote

Leeway Posted February 8, 2015 Report Posted February 8, 2015 Prompted by the George Lewis thread. Interesting to compare this "Homage" to Braxton's "Charlie Parker Project." Quote

clifford_thornton Posted February 9, 2015 Report Posted February 9, 2015 well if he's going backwards, it would be So In Love on Warwick. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted February 9, 2015 Report Posted February 9, 2015 That's Hill's first LP. Trio with Malachi Favors and James Slaughter; sadly, the 70s reissue had strings overdubbed and really crappy sound, so the original or the Fresh Sounds reissue are the only ways to fly. Quote
