mjazzg Posted November 13, 2014 Report Posted November 13, 2014 Amina Claudine Myers - Song for Mother E [Leo Records]glad to finally get a copy of this. worth the waitAgain and again. It is so good - real 'soul' music Quote
Clunky Posted November 13, 2014 Report Posted November 13, 2014 Nick Travis-------------The Panic is on---------(HMV) This is a superb session. I wish I had more examples of Travis in a small group like this. Mostly he seems buried in bigger bands. Here he plays well and the whole things swings brilliantly. Quote

Nice! It's a pretty uncompromising album that's for sure...have not played my copy in nearly 20 years! Quote
jeffcrom Posted November 14, 2014 Report Posted November 14, 2014 Wardell Gray - Way Out Wardell (Crown). My copy has the same price tag as the one in the picture. I thought for a minute it must be the same copy, but my price tag is positioned differently. Quote

Clunky Posted November 15, 2014 Report Posted November 15, 2014 Lennie Tristano------- Descent into the maelstrom ------( East Wind) Odds and ends from Lennie. Quite interesting but a hard listen given the recording quality which is fair at best. Quote
Clunky Posted November 15, 2014 Report Posted November 15, 2014 Next up Jack Duff -------The Enchanted Isle-------(Avenue) A 1971 hard bop album with the late Kenny Wheeler adding immensely to the attractive themes. My copy looks clean but has quite a few rough spots which don't really detract too much from the driving music . Quote

Kevin Bresnahan Posted November 16, 2014 Report Posted November 16, 2014 Jane Ira Bloom - Second Wind (Outline Records). Beat up record with the cover almost separated, but I've never seen it before, I like Bloom's playing and it was only $3, so I took a chance. So far, it's very nice. Quote

Kevin Bresnahan Posted November 16, 2014 Report Posted November 16, 2014 (edited) Andrew Hill - Dance With Death (Blue Note). This is another rainbow LP that just doesn't sound very good, which is why I think a lot of them sat in the can until Michael Cuscuna rescued them. Trumpeter Charles Tolliver sounds like he's playing in the other room. There's clearly something wrong with this recording and it's much more noticeable on the original LP. Edit: The more I listen to this, I have to wonder if RVG accidentally left a microphone shut off. Listen to the drum solo on the second track, "Partitions".
