Daniel A Posted September 27, 2014 Report Posted September 27, 2014 'Jazz for Playboys' (Savoy DG Mono) Frank Wess, Kenny Burrell, Joe Newman, Freddie Green, Eddie Jones, Ed Thigpen, Gus Johnson. Quote
Daniel A Posted September 27, 2014 Report Posted September 27, 2014 Jazz for a Sunday Afternoon (Solid State) Marvin Stamm, Garnett Brown, Joe Farrell, Chick Corea, Richard Davis, Elvin Jones. It was a jam session and maybe sounds a bit too much like one. Quote
sidewinder Posted September 27, 2014 Report Posted September 27, 2014 Denny Zeitlin 'Live at the Trident' (Columbia 2-eye) That one's good ! Quote
Daniel A Posted September 27, 2014 Report Posted September 27, 2014 Denny Zeitlin 'Live at the Trident' (Columbia 2-eye) That one's good ! Yes, I tend to forget that I like Zeitlin and rediscover him after a few years. This recently came out on CD in Japan, so I'll order a copy as a back-up. Not meaning to put further pressure on you before that Tokya trip... Now spinning: Quote
mjazzg Posted September 27, 2014 Report Posted September 27, 2014 Willi Kellers/Peter Brötzmann - Edelgard... Maar Helaas! - (FMP)Kellers is an underrated and superb drummer.Indeed, lovely LP. I was surprised to see copies of this for sale on catalytic Sound recently. Obviously PB must've found a stash in a cupboard somewhere Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted September 28, 2014 Report Posted September 28, 2014 Found these two in Gettysburg, PA. Both had defaced covers (by a radio station) but the lps seem unplayed. Quote
sidewinder Posted September 28, 2014 Report Posted September 28, 2014 Not meaning to put further pressure on you before that Tokya trip... Don't worry - the pressure relief valve is already blown and I am resigned to emptying all pockets. 'Advance intell' from the guys in Tokyo has already seen to that.. I'll definitely consider a copy of the Zeitlin on CD to go with the Mosaic Select. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted September 28, 2014 Report Posted September 28, 2014 Just starting Les McCann Ltd - The truth - PJ (Vogue, with a somewhat tattier sleeve than the one illustrated - a previous owner seems to have taken a bite out of the left hand edge ) MG Quote

Clunky Posted September 28, 2014 Report Posted September 28, 2014 Eric Dolphy - Unrealized tapes [West Wind] This is an excellent release in good sound. I don't recall where these sides originated. Quote
mjazzg Posted September 28, 2014 Report Posted September 28, 2014 Eric Dolphy - Unrealized tapes [West Wind]This is an excellent release in good sound. I don't recall where these sides originated.Nor do I. It was dug out for the first time in a very long time inspired by the 'Last recordings' thread. Very enjoyable Quote
jazzbo Posted September 28, 2014 Report Posted September 28, 2014 This is an album I've been enjoying for more than three decades! I used to be in love with Flora. Don't tell Airto. Quote
jeffcrom Posted September 29, 2014 Report Posted September 29, 2014 (edited) Jimmy Deuchar - Pub Crawling (Contemporary). Spinning this recent acquisition in honor of the Kingdom remaining United, and in honor of good beer everywhere. (Each of the tunes is named after a British beer.) Derek Humble, Tubby Hayes, Victor Feldman, Stan Tracey, and Phil Seamen are on board. Edited September 29, 2014 by jeffcrom Quote
clifford_thornton Posted September 29, 2014 Report Posted September 29, 2014 that's a killer record! Quote
jeffcrom Posted September 29, 2014 Report Posted September 29, 2014 Lars Gullin - Modern Sounds: Sweden (Contemporary 10"). Continuing my theme of "European jazz issued on Contemporary." Compared to the Jimmy Deuchar album, this music (from a couple of years earlier) isn't nearly as accomplished - it doesn't really have its own voice, except for Gullin's own playing. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted September 29, 2014 Report Posted September 29, 2014 I'd like to hear that one - I don't own much early Gullin. Now: Vincent Le Masne et Bertrand Porquet - Guitares Derive - (Shandar, FR) Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted September 29, 2014 Report Posted September 29, 2014 Huh. Have not heard that Shandar album...what's it like? Two classical guitars? Right now: Ornette Coleman "at the golden circle, vol.2" (NY USA mono with ear blue note) I skipped the track with trumpet and violin...doesn't do anything for me, but the rest is prime Coleman! Quote
colinmce Posted September 29, 2014 Report Posted September 29, 2014 Your loss! An early jazz purchase for me and still and all-time favorite. Quote
jeffcrom Posted September 29, 2014 Report Posted September 29, 2014 Milt Jackson - Plenty, Plenty Soul (Atlantic black label mono). First time hearing this one in nearly 20 years - I lost it in the divorce way back when. (She was crazy, but I've got to respect her for appreciating Bags.) I've been looking for a decent, affordable copy of this for some time, and found it today. Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted September 29, 2014 Report Posted September 29, 2014 Your loss! An early jazz purchase for me and still and all-time favorite. My loss!? Yeah sorry man...Coleman was my first big jazz love when I first heard his music as a 16 year old almost 25 years ago. I *love* Ornette Coleman...the size of my record and CD shelf space given to him will attest to that but yeah - I don't dig his trumpet and violin playing! I don't hate it, but time is limited so when I want to hear him I'll skip that stuff. Quote
jeffcrom Posted September 29, 2014 Report Posted September 29, 2014 Gordon Jenkins Presents Marshall Royal (Everest mono). One more before bed: a new find - gloriously corny and great at the same time. And the horn Marshall is holding appears to be the exact model and vintage as my #2 horn - a Conn 6M from the mid-40s. (Apologies to all the non-saxophonists out there for this digression. But it's a great horn.) Quote
mjazzg Posted September 29, 2014 Report Posted September 29, 2014 John Stevens - Chemistry [View] w. Kenny Wheeler, Jeff Clyne, Trevor Watts, Ray WarlieghToday's arrival. Super session - more great Kenny Wheeler but this is a undeniably session of equals Quote
