paul secor Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 Merle Haggard: Someday We'll Look Back (Capitol) Some time ago, I saw a PBS documentary on Merle Haggard. In it, someone (Marty Stuart?) made reference to Merle Haggard in the same breath as Stephen Foster, Irving Berlin, and Hank Williams. Exalted company, but I don't know that I'd disagree much. Quote
JohnS Posted September 2, 2014 Report Posted September 2, 2014 Emcee 5 'Let's Take Five' (UK Columbia mono EP) Newcastle hard bop's finest hour ! (or 15 mins) This takes me back. II used to have an EP by the Emcee 5. Can't recall the label now but it had the Carrs and Gary Cox. One of the compositions was Northumbrian Air. I guess I must have sold it years ago. A foolish thing in retrospect.. Quote
Clunky Posted September 2, 2014 Report Posted September 2, 2014 Dexter Gordon ----Biting the apple----(Steeplechase) Fine date. I don't find LTD's sound particularly well captured but that aside it's a strong session. Quote

Very limited local Newcastle pressing, I don't think many copies ever found their way south of Scotch Corner ! Edited September 3, 2014 by sidewinder Quote

I would have found it at Rays or Dobells. Quote

clifford_thornton Posted September 3, 2014 Report Posted September 3, 2014 it's up there for sure, though there are some other high-priced EPs out in the jazz collecting world. I believe that the Francois Tusques/Don Cherry EP, La Maison Fille du Soleil, goes for at least that much if not more. I would expect similarly high prices on some of those Frippe Nordstrom EPs - where he recorded himself blowing over Miles Davis records, for example. Quote

jeffcrom Posted September 4, 2014 Report Posted September 4, 2014 Doc Evans - Traditional Jazz (Audiophile red vinyl, 1957). I've said before here that Ewing Nunn's Audiophile label turned out some of the best-sounding recordings of 1950s and 1960s. But since his primary interest was traditional jazz, his sonic brilliance is somewhat overlooked. Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted September 4, 2014 Report Posted September 4, 2014 Terumasa Hino "journey to air" (Canyon, Japan) with Dave Holland, David Liebman, etc...killer album! Quote
