sidewinder Posted August 21, 2014 Report Posted August 21, 2014 US Verve LP I hate that cover. The CD mentions that there is a restaurant (somewhere in Brazil) which has copies of it plastered all over the walls. Not the place to eat then ! Quote
mjazzg Posted August 21, 2014 Report Posted August 21, 2014 Brotzmann/Drake/Hopkins - The Atlanta Concert [Okka]another Board inspired purchase. Thank you fellow Boardees for making me aware there were copies of this about. Hopkins is on fire Quote
Leeway Posted August 21, 2014 Report Posted August 21, 2014 RAPPORT - Ran Blake - Novus LP. Gave it another spin since Jonathan brought it up in the JLH reissue thread. It's a good album, not sure it would produce the demand of the Carter/Bradford or Tapscott, but deserving of a CD release. Quote

jeffcrom Posted August 22, 2014 Report Posted August 22, 2014 Hal McKusick - Jazz Workshop (RCA Victor). My copy of this great album is pretty battered, but it doesn't sound bad with a mono cartridge. Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted August 22, 2014 Report Posted August 22, 2014 After spinning a slightly noisy, but visually NM, NY USA stereo copy of Jackie McLean's "destination out" I am now enjoying a 47 w 63rd pressing of Stanley Turrentine's "up at mintons" vol.1. Sounds absolutely sublime...no crackling or surface noise and Grant Green is popping off the vinyl! Quote
Leeway Posted August 22, 2014 Report Posted August 22, 2014 THE GRIP - India Navigation LP- 1977- Arthur Blythe (as), Ahmed Abdullah (tp), Bob Stewart (tp), Abdul Wadud (cello), Steve Reid (trap drums), Muhammad Abdullah (perc). A really fine album. Quote
mjazzg Posted August 22, 2014 Report Posted August 22, 2014 THE GRIP - India Navigation LP- 1977- Arthur Blythe (as), Ahmed Abdullah (tp), Bob Stewart (tp), Abdul Wadud (cello), Steve Reid (trap drums), Muhammad Abdullah (perc). A really fine album.I couldn't agree more. I played that, Metamorphosis and Bush Baby last week. It reminded how good they each are. Of course Wadud's essential to the success of the first two Quote
Clunky Posted August 22, 2014 Report Posted August 22, 2014 (edited) Still looking for Destination Out ..... Currently playing thought my purchases from Amoeba SF and Academy NYC.... Buddy Collette ---------Cool, calm and Collette...... ( ABC) Very fine album, quite a bit more muscular than I was expecting , aside from the leader Dick Shreveport on piano is excellent. paul secor Posted August 23, 2014 Report Posted August 23, 2014 Complete Coleman Hawkins Volume 1 1929 - 1940 - (RCA France) (Front cover says 1924 - 1940; Back cover gives the correct dates.) Quote
jeffcrom Posted August 23, 2014 Report Posted August 23, 2014 All the cool kids are listening to Bean, apparently.... Coleman Hawkins - Recordings Made Between 1930 and 1941 (CBS France). A still-valuable collection; I've had it since 1976 or so. I'm starting with the ten sides made in 1933 by the Henry Allen/Coleman Hawkins Orchestra. Dickie Wells almost steals the show a couple of times. Quote
Clunky Posted August 23, 2014 Report Posted August 23, 2014 Sadao Wantanabe-------Sadao meets sharps & Flats-------(RCA Japan) Varied big band date. Middle of the road but pretty nice with great playing. Liner entirely in Japanese so no idea who else is playing . Quote

sidewinder Posted August 24, 2014 Report Posted August 24, 2014 Hilton Ruiz 'Strut' (RCA Novus) Yikes what a "classy" cover haha... Nice album - where else can you hear Sam Rivers with Mongo Santamaria ! Nat Adderley 'Sayin' Somethin'' (UK Atlantic mono - Polydor pressing) Side 1 a bit ropey with Tony Hatch covers etc. but side 2 kicks ass.. Quote
