ajf67 Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 Side one of Lou Donaldson's "Gravy Train" NY Mono I really love the way Lou plays on "Polka Dots and Moonbeams." Prety straightforward, but he's got such a nice tone that it's perfect for the slow ones like this tune. Quote
Tom in RI Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 Yet another John Graas title on Decca, Jazz Lab Two which features Jack Montrose, and, on about half the cuts, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones, among others. Quote
Dmitry Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 Lee Morgan - Take Twelve Phineas newborn, Jr - Newborn Touch Both 1980s reissues. My first time playing the Lee disc. Nothing jaw-dropping, but has Lee ever made a bad album?! Newborn Touch...well, Phineas was genius. Quote
BFrank Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 That Cobham album is a classic of sorts. Fusion-y, but not obnoxious. Currently: Cecil McBee w/Chico Freeman - "Compassion". The title tune is a MONSTER. Quote
tooter Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 (edited) [Matador] by Kenny Dorham. It has been issued on CD but I am listening to the LP. This is CD cover though, from allmusic. Edited July 22, 2004 by tooter Quote

Son-of-a-Weizen Posted July 22, 2004 Report Posted July 22, 2004 Been spinning some Kenny Clarke & Lennie McBrowne LPs that arrived today. Ordinarily I'm happy to make due with cd-rs of vinyl...but in this case, I decided that upgrading to the real thing would be a good thing. The two cd-rs of these ones have gotten alot of play 'round here over the years. Quote
