Mono only, from Dixon's tapes. The sessions were self-financed and he licensed (or as he put it, "leased") the tapes to Savoy. Sadly this record has never seen an authorized reissue since. The story is in Dixonia; I'll dig it out and transcribe later if anyone is interested.

Most of Bill's early sessions on tape were lost in the late '60s because of a storage locker mishap (I believe while Bill was in Wisconsin). A few reference copies exist and I've been lucky to hear some of those early bands with Tchicai, Giuseppi Logan, Rashied Ali et al. Hopefully some of it sees the proper light of day. There is still quite an archive up in Bennington.

IIRC the dates Bill produced in the late '60s for Savoy - Marzette Watts, Bob (Cleve) Pozar, Marc Levin, Ed Curran - are stereo, though not particularly well-recorded.

MANZANAR VOICES - Glenn Horiuchi - Asian Improv Records. Horiuchi (p), Leon Alexander (d), M'Chaka Uba (b, on "Manzanar Voices" and "Stockton Calling"), Taiji Miyagawa (b, on "Bass Blues" and "Seeds of Resistance").

Traces of Don Pullen and of course a bit of Cecil, but Horiuchi made his own alloy on this album, combining free and avant playing with Japanese traditional music and modern composition.

McCoy Tyner's "Just Feelin'" (Palo Alto Jazz) 1985, with Avery Sharpe and Louis Hayes. McCoy is quoted in the notes as saying that it's one of his best; I think he's right. Excellent recording job and piano, too.

Curtis Fuller - Sliding Easy (United Artists mono). A really nice album, with Lee Morgan, Hank Mobley, and Elvin Jones on board.

Joe Capraro - Dixieland Down South (GHB). In a Southland sleeve - when Jazzology/GHB bought out a label, they would use up all the old covers before printing up their own. I also have Jazzology records with Icon sleeves. Anyway, the main attraction here is the presence of two fine clarinetists - Raymond Burke on side one and Charlie Cordilla on side two.
