mjazzg Posted May 25, 2014 Report Posted May 25, 2014 Spontaneous Music Ensemble - 'So What Do You Think?' [Tangent]finally found a relatively reasonably priced copy, in nice condition, so went for it. No regrets Quote
imeanyou Posted May 25, 2014 Report Posted May 25, 2014 I haven't listened to Bill Evans for a couple of years but this is a warm welcome back. Philly Joe Jones is a muthafucker on 'Oleo'. (Victor Japan) Quote

[Tangent] finally found a relatively reasonably priced copy, in nice condition, so went for it. No regrets I'd feel the same. Carpe diem. The album you don't get is the one you often spend a lot of time regretting, right? Great group, Bailey and Stevens to me are the Fountainheads, and there is Mr. Watts too . Quote
porcy62 Posted May 25, 2014 Report Posted May 25, 2014 (edited) Sundazed reissue. Edit: actually it's a original Ode, stereo. Got the input from the news:http://www.theguardian.com/music/2014/may/19/led-zeppelin-accused-stealing-stairway-to-heaven-opening Edited May 25, 2014 by porcy62 Quote
JSngry Posted May 25, 2014 Report Posted May 25, 2014 Silly stuff, and only sometimes fun. But c'est la vie. It's historical and it's part of a series. Prestige. Quote
Clunky Posted May 25, 2014 Report Posted May 25, 2014 Allen Eager-------- Swingin' with Allen Eager------(Marshmallow) MMLP-102 Low-fi broadcasts from NY in 1951 & 1953. Sidemen include Howard McGhee (1953) and Fats Ford (1951) on trumpet. Not heard of the latter, a pseudonym? Both sessions worth hearing but I'd not spend too much getting these sides given the sound. Quote
jeffcrom Posted May 25, 2014 Report Posted May 25, 2014 Fats Ford was not a big name, but he played two stints with Ellington - once at the beginning of the 1950s and once at the end. He's on the Masterpieces by Ellington album, IIRC. Quote

Chuck Nessa Posted May 25, 2014 Report Posted May 25, 2014 Bought this Crown lp in high school. Freshman year of college it was stolen. Later that year a chance encounter with Conte Candoli resulted in a new copy. A few years ago I sold the bulk of my lps to finance cd reissues of my catalog. On a return "back home" to pay tribute to my departed mother in law, I visited the local vinyl store/coffee shop and found this for about $6. Quote
Leeway Posted May 25, 2014 Report Posted May 25, 2014 That's a good story Chuck. Let the circle be unbroken, as they say. SYZYGY - Tarfala Trio - Guy, Gustafsson, Strid - No Business 2LP+7". Wonderful. I noticed this time how, in various spots, how Mats G sounds surprisingly like EP, and that starts right at the first minute of LP1. Parker casts a long shadow in music like this so I guess it's not surprising after all. Quote

Yes Watts is there and sounding fine despite no mention in the sleeve notes Quote
