Leeway Posted May 2, 2014 Report Posted May 2, 2014 MJAZZG: I like the team of Frode and PNL. DAVID MURRAY LIVE VOL. 2 - David Murray, Lester Bowie, Fred Hopkins, Phillip Wilson- India Navigation LP. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted May 2, 2014 Report Posted May 2, 2014 Various Artists - DEU (Lapsus). This is an interesting collection of ambient electronic music out of the Barcelona based Lapsus Records that I found on bandcamp.com. Cool stuff on two slabs of red vinyl. Unfortunately, the record was shipped in a single layer cardboard shipper and the corners are pretty mangled. The pressing is also off center, a little warped and has a spindle hole so small that I had to shave it a bit to get it onto my turntable. I doubt it would be worth it to exchange it. The return shipping would probably be double what I paid for the whole package. Live and learn. Quote
Leeway Posted May 2, 2014 Report Posted May 2, 2014 That's a bummer Kevin. NP: RAMIFICATIONS - Irene Schweitzer, Rudiger Carl, Paul Lovens, Radu Malfatti, Harry Miller - OGUN LP. I love Carl's playing here, but I guess he wasn't so impressed with himself, as I read that he later switched completely from tenor sax to accordion (!). Did he ever switch back? Tasty album. Quote
jazzbo Posted May 3, 2014 Report Posted May 3, 2014 (edited) Certainly aged cheese elements. But damn, it's Jimmy Ponder. Edited May 3, 2014 by jazzbo Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted May 3, 2014 Report Posted May 3, 2014 Marcus Roberts - The Truth Is Spoken Here (RCA/Novus). OK stuff. It has it's moments. Badly warped. Luckily, it was in the dollar bin. Quote
Clunky Posted May 3, 2014 Report Posted May 3, 2014 Eric Dolphy-----Live in Germany ------(Stash) Japanese pressing. Dolphy off mike for too much of this bootleg quality session. Wonder where Trane was that night as it's his band. Tyner sounds good and unlike Dolphy is miked well enough. Not a priority I'd suggest unless you are a Dolphy completist. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted May 3, 2014 Report Posted May 3, 2014 Red Norvo - Ad Lib (Liberty). This looked interesting in the store but it's turning out to be a bit of a snooze and the clean-looking vinyl is playing extremely noisy. Not a keeper. Quote

Kevin Bresnahan Posted May 3, 2014 Report Posted May 3, 2014 Lee Konitz & Martial Solal - Duplicity (Horo/Japan). Nice mellow date. Unlike the Red Norvo date I just spun, it's got a lot going on in those "mellow" spaces. Quote

Kevin Bresnahan Posted May 3, 2014 Report Posted May 3, 2014 Supertramp - Breakfast In America (A&M). A favorite from my younger days. Quote
