paul secor Posted April 17, 2014 Report Posted April 17, 2014 Sonny Rollins: Tour de Force (Prestige/OJC) The exchanges between Sonny and Max Roach on "B. Quick" are amazing. Quote
JSngry Posted April 17, 2014 Report Posted April 17, 2014 Sonny Rollins: Tour de Force (Prestige/OJC) The exchanges between Sonny and Max Roach on "B. Quick" are amazing. Maybe it was on Board Krypton, but wasn't it scientifically proven that that was about as fast as you can play tempo and still have it heard/felt as "time" rather than "pulse"? Quote

Leeway Posted April 17, 2014 Report Posted April 17, 2014 Warne Marsh: Warne Out (Interplay) One of my more coveted records. Hard to get ahold of and very, very good. Yeah. You don't see much mention of the record, but Warne blows beautifully on it. My copy looks a bit different, although the cover photo is the same: Interplay Records IP-7709. As a discographical point, not sure which jacket came first, or if they were mixed in production. I think the performance on this LP rocks (so to speak, ). Apparently the vinyl itself can be iffy; mine's fortunately OK. Quote

Leeway Posted April 18, 2014 Report Posted April 18, 2014 THE GIGI GRYCE-DONALD BYRD JAZZ LABORATORY & THE CECIL TAYLOR QUARTET - VERVE LP (this copy from Polydor Japan, mono). I love hearing the young Cecil and Lacy, here with Dennis Charles and Buell Neidlinger. The hipness factor is 10+. Cecil's "Tune 2" a harbinger of things to come. I like Gryce and Byrd's set too. Leeway Posted April 19, 2014 Report Posted April 19, 2014 Frank Lowe/Phillip Wilson: Out of Nowhere (Ecstatic Peace) Paul, wanted to ask you what you thought of this album. I got a quick listen to it up in NYC and it struck me as rather tame and conventional, which was a huge disappointment. However, I did not have much time to spend with it (even though it is only one-sided). Your thoughts? Quote
Leeway Posted April 19, 2014 Report Posted April 19, 2014 ROKU009, Otomo Yoshihide's album on OTOroku, with Evan Parker, John Butcher, Sachiko M, Tony Marsh, John Edwards. Kind of a secret Evan Parker album. Found this scuffed-up copy for $3.00, but the sonics are still impressive- Prestige, Bergenfield, NJ label: Quote
