B. Clugston Posted February 27, 2014 Report Posted February 27, 2014 Anthony Braxton, Solo (Skopje) 1995. Really nice solo set from Braxton. It was supposed to be among the first Braxton House CDs, but never got issued until it appeared on overpriced vinyl 10 years ago. It can be downloaded from the Tri-Centric Foundation site at http://tricentricfoundation.org/label/braxton-house/solo-skopje-1995/ Quote
sidewinder Posted February 27, 2014 Report Posted February 27, 2014 this dippin 45 rpm set is fantastic. recado bossa nova is on, the difference is staggering. Dippin is top notch Mobley, Presumably that's the Analogue Productions issue? Quote

Kevin Bresnahan Posted February 28, 2014 Report Posted February 28, 2014 So far this morning Years ago, I received a CD of "The Believer" from Billy's fan club, who manages his official web page. It was a CD-R. I didn't think too much of it being a CD-R until I went to play it many years later and it was dead. It wouldn't even rip in any of my PCs. CD-Rs can suck. Quote
mjazzg Posted February 28, 2014 Report Posted February 28, 2014 What's that? New? No. It's a vinyl only release on a label called Hardedge from 2005. It features HT playing a lot of solo Hubkaphone with Zooid passages interspersed - almost a concerto for Hubkaphone! Quote

Interesting! Curious as to sound quality? It sounds good. Definitely one of Braxton's best alto solo albums. I believe Brandon Evans ranked it as is favourite. Apparently, co-producer Velibor Pedevski opted to release it on vinyl because it sounded much better than the proposed CD. It was supposed to have been released with the original Braxton House CDs back in 1996 or '97, but it didn't come out until 2003. Quote

I can understand that As I recall. the CDs are just adequate in sound quality; however, some excellent ensembles and performances, so I'm glad to have them. Have to keep an eye out for that LP. Thanks. Just played my first Gaslini album. I liked it: GIOGIO GASLINI MEETS ....JEAN-LUC PONTY, STEVE LACY, HARRY BECKET, TONY OXLEY, GIANNI BEDORI, BRUNO TOMMASO, PAUL RUTHERFORD. PAUSA LP. Quote

Homefromtheforest Posted February 28, 2014 Report Posted February 28, 2014 Albert Ayler Trio: Spiritual Unity (ESP) - original issue What are the markings of an original issue? My cover looks the same but is missing the Paul Haines booklet and I'm not sure what pressing/label details constitute a first pressing.. Quote

clifford_thornton Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 (edited) The numbered silkscreen edition is technically the "first" but was a limited pressing, probably given to critics and so forth. The first commercial pressing has the red on white silkscreen cover. This site is helpful: Total Shutdown & Image Gallery Edited March 1, 2014 by clifford_thornton Quote

My copy has the Haines booklet and the back and front covers look the same as what's on the second link. However, the label on mine isn't white. It's a red label. I bought my copy at the time it was released, but perhaps there was a previous issue. edit - Just read Clifford's post. I guess I have a copy of the first commercial release. Kevin Bresnahan Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 Peter Gabriel/Various Artists - Scratch My Back... And I'll Scratch Yours (Real World). Includes the music on CD (nice touch). Unfortunately, some of the artists scratching Peter's back are not ones that I've heard much from before. Truthfully, that's what makes it interesting. Peter seems to have lost a lot of range. He doesn't hit those high notes too much any more. Still worth the $25 (for two LPs & 2 CDs). Quote
