Kevin Bresnahan Posted February 7, 2014 Report Posted February 7, 2014 Chet Baker - Smokin' With The Chet Baker Quintet (Roulette). Chet on flugelhorn and some nice George Coleman on tenor. This is a Roulette pressing with a barcode. I see that it's been issued a few other times. I hope the other issues sound better than this one. Very muffled. Quote
sidewinder Posted February 8, 2014 Report Posted February 8, 2014 (edited) A couple of the Blue Note Cover Series reissues. Andrew Hill 'One For One' and McCoy Tyner 'Cosmos' - with the common factor of both having tracks with string quartet. Not the greatest of pressings but fantastic music - must have about 15 or so of these. I think the only one of the twofers I don't have is the Sam Rivers. Edited February 8, 2014 by sidewinder Quote

Kevin Bresnahan Posted February 8, 2014 Report Posted February 8, 2014 (edited) Sonny Criss - Out Of Nowhere (Muse) - It looks like an original Bell Sound pressing. I'm not a big fan of the bass sound from this era in recording history. Twang, twang, twang goes the bass. Edited February 8, 2014 by Kevin Bresnahan Quote

Kevin Bresnahan Posted February 8, 2014 Report Posted February 8, 2014 Eddie Lockjaw Davis - Smokin' (Prestige). Dark blue/silver label Van Gelder pressing. It's pretty beat up but plays OK (so far). Quote

Mark Stryker Posted February 9, 2014 Report Posted February 9, 2014 I would like to find that in a bin someday.I just found it a few weeks ago at Encore Records in Ann Arbor, one of the great used record/CD shopsin the country. It's really a strong and intriguing record, showcasing Jones at his most modern but in a slightly different vein than his Great Jazz Trio LPs with Ron Carter and Tony Williams, perhaps because it's quartet so you get to hear him comp. Great blindfold test LP in that way. Jordan sounds typically great too. Quote

Chuck Nessa Posted February 10, 2014 Report Posted February 10, 2014 Vinyl probably would not be financially wise. Quote
