John Tapscott Posted October 9, 2005 Report Posted October 9, 2005 Phil Woods Quintet - Heaven (Blackhawk) earlier today - Mal Waldron/Gary Peacock - First Encounter (Catalyst) - a fine album, seriously underrated in AMG Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted October 9, 2005 Report Posted October 9, 2005 Just finished the first two sides. Now on to side three. Quote
kh1958 Posted October 10, 2005 Report Posted October 10, 2005 I actually just got this one and have only listened to the first side--which has four tunes, and I really liked two of the four songs, El Chico and Marcheta--very percussive, mostly featuring Gabor Szabo on guitar. The other two songs are Broadway show tunes--I especially couldn't bear "People." So based on only hitting on half of side one, I would say $26 is a bit steep, though I still need to listen to side 2. (I paid $15 for an impulse original). Chico Hamilton--El Chico (impulse) ← kh1958, How is this album? My local record store has a 180gm reissue lp, but it's friggin' $26! Worth it? ← Quote
