HIS MAJESTY KING FUNK -Grant Green, Harold Vick, Larry Young, Ben Dixon, Candido Camero. Verve LP

lets not underestimate how important it is that on this session, these younger cats were in the presence of the one, only, greatest, Candido

Good point.

Max Roach - Chattahoochee Red (Columbia). Never on CD, as far as I know. I usually spin this one every year on MLK day; the first track mixes excerpts from Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech with Roach's drums. It's kind of magical, and the rest of the album is equally excellent.

Hugh Ragin - METAPHYSICAL QUESTION - with John Lindberg, Thurman Barker. CECMA LP.

I bet that's a good listen?

It is, although not a grab you by the lapels album. I think Side 2 is the stronger. I've listened to this several times now, and like it more each time. There is that sense of higher artistic aims about it.

Just listened to the long 18 min title track 'on youtube. Tasty - Lindberg and Barker really lay it down. You feel side two is even stronger - definitely added to the 'wants list'
