sidewinder Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 Ike Quebec: Congo Lament Wow, truly dreadful cover! Love the music inside, though. Worth buying just for the cover (a 'Rainbow; series classic). Excellent music ! Quote
Leeway Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 Pete LaRoca, John Gilmore, Chick Corea, and Walter Booker. That's a nice group, and this is a nice album. So nice it's also been issued under Corea's name as "Bliss." The Douglas reissue vinyl is not so good. Quote

mjazzg Posted January 10, 2014 Report Posted January 10, 2014 (edited) David Eyges - The Captain (Chiarascuro) I'd come across his playing with Cecil McBee and took a punt on a still sealed copy of this. Glad I did. It's way better than the cover suggests Can anyone out there comment on either of his LPs with Byard Lancaster? Edited January 10, 2014 by mjazzg Quote
jeffcrom Posted January 10, 2014 Report Posted January 10, 2014 I've got Crossroads, with Lancaster and Sunny Murray, and think that it's a beautiful thing. On the title cut, Eyges and Murray get their wires crossed and the beat gets turned around. I've always loved that that didn't bother them - that take got issued anyway. Quote

paul secor Posted January 10, 2014 Report Posted January 10, 2014 I heard David Eyges and Byard Lancaster play live around the time the first LP was issued. They did it up well. I have both of the LPs, but I'd have to do some more listening before I'd make a judgement call on them. Quote
