Clunky Posted November 28, 2013 Report Posted November 28, 2013 Fraser MacPherson - Oliver Gannon: I Didn't Know About You (Sackville) I like this one. Arve Henriksen - Places of Worship [Rune Grammofon] is this really a five star record? Quote
mjazzg Posted November 28, 2013 Report Posted November 28, 2013 Arve Henriksen - Places of Worship [Rune Grammofon] is this really a five star record? No, not in my oopinion. I have all Henriksen's leader recordings and I'd say this is not as good as the three other Rune Granmmofons but better than Cartography on ECM. It sounds to me as someone comfortable with their sound and choosing not to divert from it very much. Quote

clifford_thornton Posted November 30, 2013 Report Posted November 30, 2013 This afternoon's listening My copy of that is fairly crackly (hard to tell if it's the pressing or just life in somewhere gross - the vinyl is probably VG++). Good record that I would like to get a clean copy of. Quote

Seller had graded NM and i got a hefty discount so can live with it Quote
clifford_thornton Posted November 30, 2013 Report Posted November 30, 2013 Huh. Must be the pressing. Now: Coltrane - Coltrane - (Impulse, Japan) Quote

Seller had graded NM and i got a hefty discount so can live with it Hmmm...now I'm curious about my copy which I have not played in maybe 10 years or more...I'll try to dig it out tonight and play it to check my pressing...This reminds me of another great Pilz album called "Jamabiko" with Itaru Oki...if memory serves correctly this title is a bit more straightforward then "Celeste" but really great nonetheless Quote
clifford_thornton Posted November 30, 2013 Report Posted November 30, 2013 Yeah, Jamabiko is good. I used to have a copy of that one; unfortunately, it had a scratch on one track and didn't stay in the collection. Now: Ted Curson - Tears for Dolphy - (Fontana NL stereo) Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted November 30, 2013 Report Posted November 30, 2013 (edited) Gene Clark - Here Tonight (The White Light Demos) (Omnivore). A Black Friday Record Store Day release. Mellow folk-rock with a Dylanesque sound. It's good enough to play again but I wouldn't want a whole bunch of this type of stuff in my collection. Edited November 30, 2013 by Kevin Bresnahan Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted November 30, 2013 Report Posted November 30, 2013 Gene Clark just ended. Up now, Jorma Kaukonen - Quah (Grunt - 1980 reissue with alternative cover). Quote

Now: Ted Curson - Tears for Dolphy - (Fontana NL stereo) I just played my copy of "celeste" and it's super quiet...just heard two isolated pops during the entire record. However I'm all too familiar with records that look NM but are noisy...have a few of those myself..very annoying! And it can be costly too...I've posted on this before but I don't want to think about the money I've wasted buying multiple copies of Noah Howard's "space dimension" until i finally realized the entire pressing run must be f%#ed! Quote
clifford_thornton Posted December 1, 2013 Report Posted December 1, 2013 Well we know one copy of Celeste sounds good! I'll be on the lookout for another copy. Yes, the whole run of Space Dimension has a bum side two. Which is odd, because Americas are usually fairly decent pressings. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted December 1, 2013 Report Posted December 1, 2013 totally sktech! sounds like 1940. actually 1970. heres something that suprised me......julian priester's in the band on trombone! and a few short months later he'll joining MWANDISHI. scored both volumes of this, audience recording from vancouver. huge duke resources online it turns out, was reading up on it and some lady mentioned in a comment that she mentioned the existence of this lp to duke, duke got furious, and said to send it to stanley dance cause stanley was compiling info on all the duke boots for duke ellington. Homefromtheforest Posted December 1, 2013 Report Posted December 1, 2013 Andrea Centazzo "Ictus" (pdu, Italy) John Coltrane "Blue Train" (blue note, 47 w 63rd mono)...a bit crackly but serviceable early pressing of this classic Anthony Williams "Spring" (blue note, liberty)...a good sounding liberty pressing...I've always liked this record...a stellar lineup with Gary Peacock, Sam Rivers, Wayne Shorter, and Herbie Hancock..incredible! Kenny Wheeler "The Widow in the Window" (ECM, Germany)...last one....a classic...love this band Quote
sidewinder Posted December 1, 2013 Report Posted December 1, 2013 (edited) Ian Carr/Don Rendell Quintet 'Live At The Union' (Stamford Audio 2LP) The tape of this one aparently was found under Ian Carr's bed - location recording in the UCL Student Union bar. Not the greatest sound quality but wonderful that it survived nevertheless. Edited December 1, 2013 by sidewinder Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted December 1, 2013 Report Posted December 1, 2013 Groove Holmes & Ernie Watts - Come together - PJ Not a bad session this. Had it for years and it always played fine on my old turntables but there's a slight warp and my new one doesn't like the start of side 1. Bugger! MG Quote
